On Jun. 9^th, China Standardization Administration published GB20052-2013 “Energy Efficiency Limit Values and Grades of Three-Phase Distribution Transformer” which was valid since Oct. 1^st, 2013. At the same time, the application for CQC certificates would also be end on Dec. 31^st, 2013.

In the future, energy efficiency grade 1, grade 2 and grade 3 will be the standard to evaluate whether transformers are energy-saving. The efficiency of silicon steel core transformers used in our country is 96% ~ 99.7%. Because of the large amount, the electric energy consumed by these transformers is considerable. At present, the electric energy consumed by transformers themselves takes up 5% to 10% of the whole generating capacity in our country. In the consumption of power distribution network, that of transformers takes up more than 60%.

Compared with the old version, the new version further improves the standards: target limit values are canceled and energy efficiency grade 3 is added. In terms of 10kV three-phase oil-immersed distribution transformer, the new version defines “S11 series, S13 series and S15 series” as “energy efficiency grade 3, energy efficiency grade 2 and energy efficiency grade 1” respectively. Moreover, the new version further requires to decrease the on-load loss of energy efficiency grade 1. In terms of 10kV three-phase dry-type distribution transformers, the new version defines “S11 series” as the lowest limit of energy efficiency of dry-type distribution transformers. According to the new energy efficiency standards, only products of grade 3 and above can enter into the market in the future. Products of grade 2 and above are energy-saving products, and that of grade 1 is the leading energy efficient products.

Distribution transformers are the key electric equipment for electric power transmission. The consumption of transformers takes up 30% to 40% of that of power grids. The consumption of transformers themselves takes up more than 3% of that of the whole generating capacity. Therefore, our country always pays more attention to energy saving and consumption reducing of transformers, to significantly push energy conversation and emission reduction.

On Nov. 6^th, 2012, Ministry of Finance, National Development and Reform Commission, and Ministry of Industry and Information published some implementation rules to promote high efficiency and energy saving distribution transformers. These rules defines product range and conditions, enterprise conditions, promotion period, qualification application and son forth.

In fact, energy efficiency of transformers is important to power standardization, which actively pushed replacement of old transformers and reduction of energy consumption.
